Flavour Mixing and Fermion Mass Generation as a Result of Symmetry Breaking
نویسنده
چکیده
It is shown that a simple breaking of the subnuclear democracy leads to a successful description of the mixing between the second and third family. In the lepton channel the ν µ − ν τ oscillations are expected to be described by a mixing angle of 2.65 • which might be observed soon in neutrino experiments.

SUSY SU(6) GIFT for Doublet-Triplet Splitting and Fermion Masses
The supersymmetric SU(6) model equipped by the flavour-blind discrete gauge symmetry Z3 is considered. It provides simultaneous solution to the doublet-triplet splitting problem, μ-problem and leads to natural understanding of fermion flavour. The Higgs doublets arise as Goldstone modes of the spontaneously broken accidental global SU(6) × U(6) symmetry of the Higgs superpotential. Their coupli...
متن کاملSequential Flavour Symmetry Breaking
The gauge sector of the Standard Model (SM) exhibits a flavour symmetry which allows for independent unitary transformations of the fermion multiplets. In the SM the flavour symmetry is broken by the Yukawa couplings to the Higgs boson, and the resulting fermion masses and mixing angles show a pronounced hierarchy. In this work we connect the observed hierarchy to a sequence of intermediate eff...
متن کاملFermion Masses and Mixing Angles from SU (3) Family Symmetry and Unification
We develop a bottom-up approach to constructing a theory of fermion masses and mixing angles based on the gauge group SU(3) × G where SU(3) is a family symmetry and G contains a unified group such as SO(10) or its Pati-Salam subgroup, together with other discrete symmetries. We construct a realistic model and show that it can provide an excellent description of quark and lepton masses and mixin...
متن کاملSoft SUSY breaking and family symmetry
A spontaneously broken non-Abelian SU(3) family symmetry can generate a realistic form for quark, charged lepton and neutrino masses and mixing angles. It also gives a new solution to the SUSY flavour problem by ensuring near family degeneracy of the soft mass SUSY breaking terms. However the need to generate large third generation fermion masses means that the group must be strongly broken to ...
متن کاملComposite leptoquarks at the LHC
If electroweak symmetry breaking arises via strongly-coupled physics, the observed suppression of flavour-changing processes suggests that fermion masses should arise via mixing of elementary fermions with composite fermions of the strong sector. The strong sector then carries colour charge, and may contain composite leptoquark states, arising either as TeV scale resonances, or even as light, p...
